Application and Admission Procedures
Faculties and Graduate Schools, Undergraduate Courses
Eligibility for Application
The applicant should be a national of a country other than Japan, and should fulfill all of the following requirements.
1. Applicants should correspond to either of the following
a. A person who is expected to have completed 12 years of school education abroad by the end of March in the year of admission, or a person who is recognized by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan to have the equivalent level of education (For details, please contact the Admission Division of the Student Affairs Department.)
b. A holder of either the International Baccalaureate, Abitur (Germany) or Baccalauréat (France) degree who is 18 years of age or older by the end of March in the year of admission
2. Applicants should have a score for the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) conducted by the Japan Student Services Organization one year or two years before the academic year of admission. (The test administered by the National Center for University Entrance Examinations is exempted.)
3. Applicants should have a certificate of eligibility for a status of residence that is required by the Immigration-Control and Refugee-Recognition Act for admission to a university.

Application Procedures
1. Request for Application Form
The brochure with the application form is available at the end of September of the year before the year of admission. A written request for the brochure should be addressed to the Admissions Division of the Student Affairs Department. Enclose a self-addressed (name, address, postal code), stamped return envelope (Approx. 33cm x 24cm) with your request. If you are a resident of Japan, the postage is 580 yen — otherwise please enclose an international reply coupon of that value. Cleary write “Request for Application Form for Self-financed Foreign Students” in red ink on the front of the envelope.
2. How to apply
Application materials should be sent by mail to the Admissions Division, Student Affairs Department within the specified application period. Use the envelope attached to the application brochure, and circle “Self-financed Foreign Students” on the front of the envelope in red ink.
Admission Procedures
Applicants will be evaluated according to different standards than those for Japanese students, based on the results of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), an achievement test and inspection of relevant documents.
Awarding of Academic Degrees
The bachelor’s degree will be awarded to students who successfully graduate from the University
Graduate Courses
Eligibility for Application
To be considered for admission, applicants must be of a nationality other than Japanese, and must satisfy one of the following conditions:
Graduate School (Master's Course)
1. The holder of a bachelor's degree
2. Completion of 16 years of schooling abroad by the day of admission
3. An equivalent recognized by the MEXT
4. The equivalent of a bachelor's degree or a higher degree as recognized by the graduate school to which the candidate applies
Graduate School (Doctoral Course)
1. A master's degree (Candidates who expect to obtain a master's degree by March 31 of the year of enrollment in the doctoral program are also eligible to apply.)
2. The equivalent of a master's degree from a university outside Japan (Candidates who expect to obtain such a degree by March 31 of the year of enrollment in the doctoral program are also eligible to apply.)
3. An equivalent recognized by the MEXT
4. The equivalent of a master's degree or a higher degree as recognized by the graduate school to which you are applying
Graduate School of Medical Science (Doctoral Course)
1. Completion of a six-year undergraduate program or the expected completion of the same by March of the year in which the applicant seeks enrollment
2. An equivalent recognized by the MEXT
3. Completion of 18 years of schooling abroad or the expected completion of the same by March of the year in which the applicant seeks enrollment
4. The equivalent of a six-year undergraduate program or a higher degree as recognized by the graduate school to which you are applying

Selection of Students
Since there may be annual changes in the date of the entrance examination or the method of selecting candidates, and since the procedures may vary according to the respective graduate schools, please contact the graduate school of your choice for details.
Awarding of Degrees
A master's or doctoral degree will be awarded to those who successfully complete the requirements specified by the relevant program.
Non-degree Courses (Research students, etc.)
