Towards carbon neutrality by 2050, Kanazawa University is promoting initiatives across four pillars: "Research and Development," "Social Contribution," "Education," and "Campus."
To date, we have formulated Action Plan 2022 (March 2022) and Action Plan 2023 (June 2023). This time, we have formulated and published the "Revised Action Plan 2023" to further clarify Kanazawa University 's stance toward carbon neutrality, revise the roadmap, and enhance specific results and goals in research, education, etc. Furthermore, in June 2025, we published "Progress Report vol.2 'e:C0Real' 2025," which summarizes the results of our efforts in FY2024.

Basic Policy for Achieving Carbon Neutrality
Kanazawa University, under the banner of "Kanazawa E 4- CAMPUS for Carbon Neutrality," focuses on Research and Development, Social Contribution, Education, and achieving carbon neutrality for its campus facilities. With "Future-oriented Intelligence" as its core pillars, Kanazawa University aims to lead the development of society by achieving carbon neutrality and contribute to society as a leading force in human resource development and research and development.
Mission and aspirations of Kanazawa University to achieve carbon neutrality
E4-CAMPUS represents the mission and aspirations of the university, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality and the SDGs through universal education, research, medical care, and social contribution related to the environment, energy, and ecosystems as a center of knowledge in East Asia.

E4-CAMPUS is a combination of the four diverse E's and CAMPUS, with the following aspirations.
E4: Environment, Energy, Ecology, Education and research
C": Cooperation...to conduct education, research, and social contribution toward the achievement of carbon neutrality in collaboration with all members.
A: Achievement...to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050
M: Medical...Contribute to the health and welfare of all people by striving to develop and disseminate highly advanced medical care.
P: Pioneer...Leading the way in achieving carbon neutrality as a center of knowledge in Hokuriku and East Asia.
U: Universality...Through education and research with universality, we will realize a sustainable society where no one is left behind.
S: Social Contribution...To conduct education and research to realize a sustainable society in cooperation with industry, government, academia, and the local community.
Greenhouse gas emission reduction targets to achieve carbon neutrality
Mid-term target: 51% reduction from 2013 levels by 2030
Long-term target: Achieve carbon neutrality by 2050

Roadmap to carbon neutrality
In addition to promoting research and development that contributes to carbon neutrality with various stakeholders and further enhancing education on global environmental issues, we have established a roadmap to promote efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at campus facilities.
Kanazawa University It is estimated that the social implementation of the research results of the "Greenhouse Gas Reduction Project (GHGR)" will "reduce greenhouse gas emissions by hundreds of millions of tons per year," far exceeding the amount of greenhouse gas emissions from the campus (about 35,000 tons), and is expected to have a ripple effect not only in Japan but also throughout the entire planet.
