A research team from the Cancer Research Institute at Kanazawa University—led by Professor Chiaki Takahashi, Assistant Professor Susumu Kohno, Associate Professor Nobuyuki Okahashi of the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology at The University of Osaka, and Professor Fumio Matsuda (Bioinformatic Engineering)—has developed the world’s first technology that enables the measurement and accurate prediction of energy metabolism in cancer cells using computer simulations, through the integration of biotechnology and information science.
The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the development of cancer therapies that target cellular metabolism. The measurement technology developed through this research can also be applied to the analysis of medically and bioengineering-relevant cells, including immune cells, iPS cells, and antibody-producing cells.
Assistant Professor Susumu Kohno and Professor Chiaki Takahashi contributed to establishing the optimal cell culture system for flux analysis in this study.
The results of this research were published in the American scientific journal Metabolic Engineering on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
