On June 25, Tech Startup HOKURIKU (hereafter, TeSH) (*1) held an event titled “Toward Creating Global Startups from Hokuriku Academia — Life Science Edition” at the Nihonbashi Life Science Building in Tokyo.
This event aimed to build a life science ecosystem connecting Hokuriku, the Tokyo metropolitan area, and the world, by socially implementing cutting‑edge life science research outcomes originating from universities and colleges of technology in the Hokuriku region as globally competitive startups. Approximately 50 participants attended, including researchers, startup supporters active in the Tokyo metropolitan area and globally, and venture capitalists.
To open the event, professor Naoki Yasukawa, Frontier Science and Social Co-creation Initiative (FSSI), Kanazawa University, took the stage and delivered opening remarks, expressing expectations for TeSH’s mission of creating global startups originating from Hokuriku and highlighting the significance of the event.
Following this, three researchers supported by the TeSH GAP Fund Program Step 2 (*2) presented their research seeds: professor Hiroaki Taniguchi, Cancer Research Institute, Kanazawa University; professor Motoichi Kurisawa, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST); and professor Toshihisa Hatta, Kanazawa Medical University. Professor Taniguchi presented his research under the theme “Innovative Nucleic Acid Drug Discovery for the AYA Generation”, sharing both the research content and prospects for social implementation.
In the subsequent panel discussion titled “Creating and Nurturing Life Science Startups from Hokuriku to the World”, the three researchers were joined by three startup supporters. associate professor Shingo Oyama (Special Appointment) of FSSI served as moderator, facilitating an exchange of views on topics such as the human resources needed for commercialization and strategies for global expansion.
During the networking session after the event, active business card exchanges took place between researchers and participants, giving a sense that steps toward future collaboration had already begun.
TeSH will continue to promote the creation of deep‑tech startups originating from the Hokuriku region.

A platform operated mainly by Kanazawa University and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), aiming to create startups based on research outcomes from 16 universities and 3 colleges of technology in the Hokuriku region.
