On August 6, the FY2026 Second University‑Wide FD Training Session, titled “Reflecting on Laboratory Education in Graduate Schools — Developing Highly Specialized Human Resources through Research Supervision”, was held online, with 63 faculty and staff members from within the University participating.

This training session focused on laboratory education in graduate schools and the research supervision skills of university faculty members. In addition to a keynote lecture by an expert, faculty members involved in graduate education at Kanazawa University introduced concrete examples of laboratory management, research supervision, seminar activities, and other practices, providing an opportunity to reflect on the ideal form of laboratory education in graduate schools.

Following opening remarks by Vice President Akiharu Morimoto, professor Kato Maki of the Higher Education Human Resource Development System Group, Institute for Educational Development and Partnership, Nagoya University, delivered a keynote lecture titled “Laboratory Education in Graduate Schools and Research Supervision by University Faculty — With Examples from Nagoya University.”

Subsequently, as part of the introduction of practical examples of laboratory education in each graduate school at Kanazawa University, professor Takuro Adachi of the Institute for the Study of Ancient Civilizations and Cultural Resources, professor Masahiro Mambo of the Faculty of Electrical, Information and Communication Engineering, Institute of Science and Engineering, and professor Kazuma Ogawa of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Institute of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences, each provided presentations.

In the latter half of the session, professor Toru Hayashi, Deputy Director of the Center for Management of Teaching and Learning and member of the Education Support Center, facilitated the discussion, including questions and exchanges of opinions among the speakers. Topics addressed in the Q&A included: approaches to graduate student support in Nagoya University’s wellness program, changes over time in the sense of community among graduate students within laboratories, the relationship between graduate students and supervisors in setting research topics, and the need for tips to support research supervision and laboratory management.

Finally, each of the four speakers offered brief concluding remarks, and the session ended successfully.
