The team from Saitama Municipal Omiya International Secondary School, which won the top prize in Kanazawa University’s mathematics contest “Japan Mathematics A‑lympiad” and was subsequently recommended as Japan’s representative for the international competition “Mathematics A‑day,” participated in the event held in the Netherlands on March 13–14.

The results were announced later, and the Japan representative team achieved a remarkable victory, earning the gold medal. The students received medals, a trophy, and certificates in recognition of their outstanding performance.

“Mathematics A‑day,” organized by the Freudenthal Institute at Utrecht University (Netherlands), is an international competition in which participants tackle global, real‑world challenges using mathematical thinking. This year, nine representative teams—selected through preliminary rounds—from countries including the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and Croatia took part. The Japan team rose to the top among all participating countries.

The team had won the Top Prize at the 8th Japan Mathematics A‑lympiad, held in November 2025, and was selected as Japan’s representative for “Mathematics A‑day.” Their participation was supported by the Daicel High School Overseas Challenge Support Program, and they were dispatched to the competition through this initiative.
