On June 9, we held “Let’s Create Together! Music Festival in Higashiminato Elementary School,” an exchange program through music. Four second‑year students, four third‑year students, and one fourth‑year student from the Music Subject Group, School of Teacher Education, along with two faculty members and two second‑year students from the Graduate School of Human and Socio‑Environmental Studies, visited Nanao Municipal Higashiminato Elementary School to interact with 24 third‑grade pupils.

The members began preparing in April, practicing repeatedly while exploring how to best showcase their respective instruments to delight the children and how to ensure smooth program flow.

In the first half of the program, the children enjoyed performances featuring instruments such as the cajón, flute, baritone saxophone, euphonium, shamisen, and Boomwhackers (Do‑Re‑Mi pipes), as well as a quiz related to the instruments. The children reacted in various ways—some were surprised by the sounds of instruments they rarely encounter, while others spontaneously exclaimed, “Wow!”

The second half featured activities in which university and graduate students worked together with the children, including a choral performance of “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and a group instrumental performance. The choral piece had been requested in advance, and the children sang energetically and even louder than the university students. During the ensemble performance, when the university students asked, “Want to do that again?”, the children were enjoying themselves so much that they responded, “We want to do it 100 more times!”
