Ms. Satomi Kakuhira, a graduate of Kanazawa University (FY2025 Art Education Group, School of Teacher Education, College of Human and Social Sciences), received the Highest Award (Excellence Award / Kanazawa Mayor’s Award) in the General Sculpture Division of the 82nd Contemporary Art Exhibition.

Her award-winning work, “A-un no Neko” (“A-un Cats”), is a large-scale sculptural group depicting giant cats modeled after her own pets. The charming everyday gestures of her cats are skillfully incorporated and expressed as a pair of “koma-neko” (guardian cats), inspired by the traditional guardian lion-dog statues.

She began creating sculpture after entering Kanazawa University. This work was produced as her graduation project, making this an impressive achievement for her first-ever submission to the exhibition.

The Contemporary Art Exhibition is being held at the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa until April 13. This work is on display at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa.
