AMED Faculty of Medicine Research Support Program Kick-off Public Symposium Held

On January 29, 2025, the kick-off symposium for the "Faculty of Medicine Research Support Program" [Comprehensive Type] of the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology was held at Hotel Nikko Kanazawa. Kanazawa University was selected last August. A total of 76 people, 61 in person and 15 online, attended the symposium.

First, there was an opening remark from Takashi Wada President, followed by guest remarks by Trustee Norihiro Kokudo of the AMED Program Supervisor, Director of the National Institute for Health Crisis Management, and Director Kanae Kurata of the Life Sciences Division, Research Promotion Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The project representative, Professor Yasuhiko Yamamoto,  General Manager, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences, and the research manager, Professor Seiji Yano, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences, explained the outline of this project.

Then, from Kanazawa University, Professor Akihiro Nomura Faculty of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation, Institute of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation, Associate Professor Yuhei Araiso, Faculty of Health Sciences (Growth and Development Project), Institute of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences, Associate Professor Masanori Imamura, Faculty of Medicine (Brain Project), Institute of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences, and Professor Yoshikazu Jomura , Cancer Research Institute (Aging Project) gave an overview of the research being promoted under this project.

Afterwards, Professor Dongsheng Cai from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, USA, gave a special lecture titled "Aging, brain and whole-body health: targeting the hypothalamus".

Finally, the AMED Program Officer, Trustee Hideo Baba, Chemo-Sero-Therapeutic Research Institute, gave an encouraging comment on the promotion of the project, and Trustee Akihiro Yachie ended with a closing remark, making it a very meaningful time.
