On November 27, "Tech Startup HOKURIKU" (TeSH) held an event titled "Toward the Creation of Global Startups Originating from Hokuriku Academia – Life Sciences Part II" at CIC Tokyo in Toranomon Hills, Tokyo. The event was held in a hybrid format using both on-site and online sessions, and was attended by approximately 80 participants.

TeSH is a platform for the creation of startups based on research results from 13 universities and 3 technical colleges in the Hokuriku region, operated by Kanazawa University and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) as lead organizations.

At the opening, Associate Professor Yoshitaka Sasaki of Frontier Science and Social Co-creation Initiative, Kanazawa University  took the stage to provide an overview of TeSH and introducing promising seeds selected for the TeSH GAP Fund Program.

After that, two researchers supported by the TeSH GAP Fund Program each gave a presentation on their respective research seeds. Professor Rikinari Hanayama of the Nano Life Science Institute, Kanazawa University introduced his work on "Establishing Mass Production and Quality Control Technologies for High-Quality Exosome Formulations." Associate Professor Seiji Yamamoto of the University of Toyama presented on "Establishment of a Drug Discovery Startup Promoting the Development of Therapeutic Antibodies for Pediatric Intractable Disease 'Cystic Lymphangioma'."

Following that, a panel discussion was held with not only researchers but also startup supporters and investors. Ayano Kagami, Director of CIC Institute, served as the moderator. The panelists included Masaru Nagura, Director of CIC Institute and Vice Representative Director of the Startup Ecosystem Association, and Kazumi Suzuki from Keio Innovation Initiative, Inc.

During the discussion, under the theme of "Strategies for International Expansion of Life Science Startups," participants exchanged opinions on the possibilities in the global market, challenges currently faced, and contributions to the region.

During the networking session after the event, active business card exchanges took place between researchers and participants, giving a strong sense that steps toward future collaboration were already beginning.

TeSH will continue to promote the creation of startups in the deep tech field from Hokuriku.
