On October, the kickoff symposium of the Environmental Stress Research Center was held at the Medical Library Juzen Memorial Studio, with around 80 participants, including young researchers and students from within the university.

The Advanced Preventive Medicine Research Center, established in 2017 within the Kanazawa University Institute of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences, has refined its research direction and aims to become a hub for overcoming diseases by targeting environmental stress responses. On June 1 of this year, the center underwent a name change and reorganization, becoming the Environmental Stress Research Center (eSRC).

At the symposium, Professor Toshinari Takamura the director of the center and a professor in the Institute of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences Faculty of Medicine, provided an overview of the eSRC, introducing its role in promoting research within the university and its future developments. Following that, Professor Toshiya Endo from Kyoto Sangyo University delivered a special lecture titled "The Mechanism by which Cells Create Mitochondria." In the subsequent address by President Takashi Wada, he expressed high expectations for the development of eSRC into a world-class research center through the integration of research both within and outside the center. In a session with six eSRC faculty members, each faculty member presented "Research Platforms that eSRC Can Offer to the Entire University," followed by a Q&A session with the attendees.

Intense and lively discussions between the presenters and participants took place, and this symposium became a catalyst for fostering new collaborations that are expected to lead to joint research both within and outside the new center.
