At the 2025 Hokkaido Marathon held on August 31, Kanazawa University alumnus Yudai Fukuda (Class of 2018, School of Economics, College of Human and Social Sciences) finished third with a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 59 seconds—setting a new Ishikawa Prefecture record.
As a result, he earned a spot in the Marathon Grand Championship (MGC), Japan’s selection race for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic marathon, scheduled for autumn 2027. Fukuda, who is not affiliated with a corporate running team, continues to train and compete while working as a full-time professional. For a citizen runner to qualify for the Olympic marathon selection race is a remarkable achievement.
During his time at Kanazawa University, he was an active member of the Athletic Club, making his mark at major national competitions including the All-Japan University Ekiden, the Izumo Ekiden, and the All-Japan Intercollegiate Championships.
