  • 4. Quality education for all

On July 13, College of Human and Social Sciences School of International Studies held the first workshop "School Education x Japanese Language Education: Possibilities and Challenges in Supporting Children with Foreign Links" in FY2025 for the "Project for Establishment of Training Centers for Japanese Language Teachers (Chubu Block, Kanazawa University)" at the Kakuma Campus, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

In the workshop, after the purpose statement by Ms. Noriko Ichishima Professor of Institute of Human and Social Sciences Faculty of International Studies, Ms. Chikako Nishiumi of Compulsory Education Division, Fukui Prefectural Board of Education reported on the projects of each prefecture as "Fukui Prefecture Support Project for Foreign Students," and Mr. Toshinori Nishimura Director, in charge of teaching Staff Division of Ishikawa Prefectural Board of Education Secretariat, reported on "Support for Foreign Students at Prefectural High Schools. Next, Ms. Ikuko Okumura and Ms. Chihiro Nakao, part-time teachers at Kanazawa Tatsumigaoka High School in Ishikawa Prefecture, Ms. Ruri Bessho from Kanazawa University College of Human and Social Sciences School of International Studies, and Ms. Mai Yoshikawa from Graduate School of Human and Socio-Environmental Studies Division of International Studies presented the situation, challenges and recommendations for support for students with foreign connections as "Thinking from the Voice of the Frontline of Japanese Language Support: Case Study of Support at Tatsumigaoka High School". Finally, a question-and-answer session and general discussion followed.

The event was attended by 41 people in person and about 80 people online, many from Hokuriku and other parts of Japan, who actively asked questions to the speakers. It was an opportunity to confirm the need for collaboration among people and organizations involved in various forms of support for children with foreign connections.
