Event Details
The 2025 academic year marks the first time that high school students educated under Japan’s new curriculum guidelines will enter university. Recent changes in high school education emphasize cross-disciplinary learning, inquiry-based study, and the introduction of “Information” as a formal subject. These reforms aim to help students develop foundational skills for analyzing data, gaining a broad perspective, and thinking deeply about complex issues. Such developments in secondary education are expected to drive significant changes in university education—especially in first-year programs.
Kanazawa University is advancing reforms to its general education curriculum in preparation for the 2026 academic year. As part of these changes, the university will restructure its undergraduate “Global Standard” framework, reducing the current six clusters to four, and significantly revising the placement of GS (Global Standard) subjects. In addition, new courses will be introduced under the concept of multicultural collaborative learning, aiming to refresh the general education system to meet the demands of a new era.
In this training session, we will learn from a keynote lecture on the new general education curriculum introduced at Okayama University in the 2025 academic year. While keeping in mind the connection between high school and university education, we aim to exchange ideas with participants about the future direction of general education in universities.
