Event Details
Brain development is a remarkable process that begins with a tube formed by folding a sheet composed of a small number of neural stem cells and progresses into an extremely complex neural network. The fundamental blueprint of the brain, including the number of neurons and the formation of layered brain structures, is thought to be encoded within stem cells as genetic information and sequentially activated as development proceeds. Abnormalities in these processes can lead to a variety of neurological disorders.
The laboratory of Professor Fumio Matsuzaki, Specially Appointed Professor at the Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University, uses a variety of approaches, including live imaging of stem cells in living model organisms such as fruit flies, mice, and ferrets, as well as physicochemical methods, to analyze the programs of neural stem cells that determine the grand design of the higher brain and maintain its homeostasis.
In this lecture, Professor Matsuzaki will introduce the latest findings from this research. We look forward to your participation.
