What is the “Kanazawa University Miyamoto Prize”?
Kanazawa University established the Kanazawa University Miyamoto Prize in 2024 with the aim of honoring researchers who have made outstanding achievements in the social sciences—particularly in the fields of public finance, regional studies, local governance, and environmental studies—and contributing to society as well as to the further advancement of academic research in Japan. This prize is funded by a donation from Professor Emeritus Kenichi Miyamoto, Honorary Doctor of Kanazawa University and alumnus of the former Fourth Higher School, one of the university’s predecessor institutions.
Professor Miyamoto taught at Kanazawa University, Osaka City University, and Ritsumeikan University before serving as President of Shiga University. He has consistently pursued pioneering research in a wide range of fields, including public finance, regional economics, local governance, and environmental economics. His work has not only produced leading academic achievements but has also provided valuable theoretical guidance for numerous civic activities, such as addressing pollution issues and community development.

We are now accepting applications for candidates and organizations for the 3rd Kanazawa University Miyamoto Prize. We welcome entries from individuals or groups who have been active in the relevant fields. Self-nominations and third-party nominations are both accepted.
