On December 9, the 12th Kanazawa University International Student Homecoming Day was held at Kakuma-no-sato House. Sixty local participants, including alumni, current international students, Japanese students, faculty members, and others, as well as 16 online participants in the Session 1 and 50 online participants in Session 2 from Japan and abroad joined the event .
In the Session 1, President Wada gave an opening address, followed by speeches by the presidents and vice presidents of overseas alumni associations, etc. After that, an international student selected for the Kanazawa University Strategic Project for Development of Doctoral Students and Research Promotion “HaKaSe+” presented his research, introducing the university’s researcher support environment to alumni and international students. In this year’s event, the Emerging Media Initiative made use of the Metaverse in many scens, including the first trial of a hybrid system in which the DX system was remotely operated by connecting the Kakuma-no-sato House and xR studio.
The Session 2 was a hybrid free talk session divided into overseas alumni associations. Kanazawa University International Exchange Student Ambassadors served as MCs for the sessions in their respective countries and deepened exchanges with alumni and international students who participated online. International students from countries that do not have overseas alumni associations also enjoyed the food and drinks, including Suzukake cookies (made by the university’s Affiliated School for Special needs Education) and the university’s original Guatemalan coffee, had a talk in the general space, and enjoyed the “Old Kanazawa Castle Campus VR Experience” provided by the Emerging Media Initiative.
It was a precious time for alumni and international students alike to reaffirm the strong ties and the pride in being Kanazawa University’s students and alumni.
