From July 25th to July 31st, a delegation led by President Wada, accompanied by Advisor to the President Yamamoto, Advisor to the President Hayashi, Executive Director of the International Relations Department Ando, and Senior Staff of the Student Affairs Division of the Human and Social Administration Department Kawanishi, visited the State University of New York at Buffalo, Tufts University, Harvard University, Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School, Joslin Diabetes Center, and Mass General Brigham, as well as the Consulate General of Japan in Boston and CIC Cambridge. The delegation held discussions with the presidents and representatives of each institution as part of strategic international exchange.
At the State University of New York at Buffalo, the delegation participated in the signing ceremony for the renewal of the inter-university international exchange agreement. At the ceremony, parties reaffirmed the commitment to further develop new exchanges based on the foundation of nearly 50 years of exchange and sister city relations. Furthermore, at Tufts University, KU and Tufts University reached an agreement to establish a new student and researcher exchange program, building upon their collaboration in the Top Global University Project (SGU).
Additionally, discussions about future cooperation were held at Harvard University, Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School, Joslin Diabetes Center, and the largest healthcare system group in the United States, Mass General Brigham. Among many topics, the creation of a unique international brain circulation project by KU, targeting young researchers, and the signing of an MoU were discussed constructively. It was agreed to promptly advance discussions toward realization of these initiatives.
Starting with this visit to the U.S.A., KU aims to accelerate strategic international exchange by promoting its original “top diplomacy” strategy of direct engagement with leadership of partner institutions.
